Why did we start WisdomCircle?

1. The retirement age in most countries remains around 60 years. Thus, many people today, retire from active work at 60 years of age and spend the next 20-30 years of their lives without much to do despite their wealth of skills and experience, which is currently not being tapped into. Many retirees want to continue contributing post-retirement but often don’t know where to look for relevant opportunities. Additionally, not staying engaged may seriously impact their mental health and general well-being - not having enough brain stimulation increases the rate of cognitive decline as we get older, which could lead to depression, dementia, and Alzheimer's.
2. On the other hand, there are several organizations (from well-established MNCs to new start-ups) that are looking for experts, mentors, coaches, advisors, professionals with niche skills, etc. but are unable to find them through traditional job boards. Leveraging search firms or headhunters in most cases is prohibitively costly!

WisdomCircle fills this gap in the market by connecting retired professionals and organizations looking for experts in a pocket-friendly way. We are talking primarily of part-time gigs that range from a few months to a year or two, that accommodate people wanting to work 2-4 hours/day or 2-3 days/week, i.e. at a pace that suits them.

We also have a dedicated team focusing on the retirees from the Armed Forces to help them find meaningful roles that suit their professional skills, beyond just administration or security. The skill sets of retirees from the Armed Forces are barely understood by the civilian world, and we want to change that to help our Faujis.

How are we going to do it?

Demand creation is one of the biggest challenges why people have not been able to come up with solutions yet. Especially in our country where everyone is thinking primarily about younger people, retirees have not been given the focus.

Interestingly, we are finding that demand absolutely exists but needs to be unearthed. We are working on this and are already beginning to taste some success given the 500+ openings that are already listed in our platform by 80+ organizations across Education, Automotive, Manufacturing, Technology, and the Social Sector. The one question we ask for creating demand in organizations is:

Traditionally, such a role is often played by a services company, but that, by definition, doesn’t scale. We want to impact a million people. Technology is the most important piece that will allow us to crack this.

Incidentally, some of them are also helping us test our product to check if it resonates with them, and are deeply involved in helping us craft the solutions.
